Celebrating Chinese New Year at Xiao Yu´s home with all her family and relatives.

I ate a lot, especially all the chinese sweets...but I really liked them even though some tasted quite "interesting" I would say :-) ...


I got to know some Chinese traditions - like giving oranges to people for wishing them luck.

I went to 4 different houses of Xiao Yu´s family - all very nice places.

I got to know how to play Bridge (well almost...;-)!)

I watched this brutal but still great chinese movie, which name I of course forgot...

I was singing Karaoke with Xiao Yu, her sisters and cousins at her grandmothers place (believe it or not, they have their own Karaoke room!)

Thaipusam -
Indian religious festivity in Kuala Lumpur at the Batu Caves

Beginning of february Emily and me went for a short 2 day trip to Kuala Lumpur to see the Thaipusam and also do a little sightseeing in town.


It took us 5 hours to come to KL with our luxurious bus - it was really comfortable - private TV, nice chairs,...



on the next day we meet Miguel and Fernando from Mexico at the Petronas Twin Towers to enjoy the awesome view over KL.

After that we took a cab to the Thaipusam - is was really impressive:

over 1 million people - mostly indians, of course, - different music, smells, colours, lots of praying and dancing, andandand...

it was just a great day full of amazing impressions and a really unique experience being part of such a celebration

so, let´s tell you more about what I did the past weeks...

Just three days after we have arrived - big new years party at Santosa Island - 5000 people, foam party, firework, lots of other exchange students and us:

After this party many others followed…and will follow... especially on wednesdays - Ladies Night! and since drinks are free all night and usually drinks are very expensive in Singapore we won´t miss a single wednesday of course...

Just 10 days after we arrived our first trip - to Thailand/Phuket/Phi Phi Island, together with a bunch of other exchange students. We really had a great time and enjoyed 4 days at the beach, with snorkling, boat tours, kayaking,….

...almost a month has passed already since I arrived in Singapore on the 26th of december and so I decided it´s definitely time for a little review of the past weeks and an update of my blog. All the ones just wondering why I´m writing in English - I just want to give everybody the chance to understand what I am telling... :-) Fair enough right...?!
Well, eventhough I am just here for a month I have already experienced and done so many nice things and up to now I can just say that I am really enjoying my time here and looking so much forward to spend some months here in Asia. (university actually just goes till mid april but I am planning to stay for a longer time since I only need to be back in Austria by september).
Since I believe pictures tell more than 1000 words and are also much more fun to look at, I´m just going to give an overview of the last weeks and the highlights by showing you some pictures.
Well, here we are, the four Austrias discovering the big wide world...

on the following picture you can see Yen, just sitting left from me, she´s my buddy at SMU. We have already met a couple of times and I hope I´ll meet her more often in the future since she´s really nice and its also great to know local people.

this picture I took at the SMU - always reminding me that I´m actually here for studies and not just for travelling ;-) the university is really different than FH - it´s sooo big and has great facilities (big libary, own gym, doctor, dentist, all kind of other shops, food court, etc...) The only thing I just have to get used to are the extremely airconditioned rooms - you come in, are sweating and you go out and are freezing like crazy... so it´s just too good that I am only at SMU twice a week (yes, just thuesday and wednesday, not bad...)

Kurzer Abstecher in die Heimat....

4 Tage Überraschungsbesuch in Graz anlässlich Kiki's Maturaball.

Obwohl ich in 6 Tagen schon wieder endgültig von A'Dam abreise, habe ich trotzdem beschlossen dass ich mir den Maturaball von meiner Schwester nicht entgehen lassen will und bin am 6.12, Mittwoch, nach der Arbeit ins Flugzeug gestiegen um meine Familie und Freunde mit meinem Besuch zu überraschen - und die Überraschung ist auch gut gelungen - Besonders beim Reserl ;-)

Am Donnerstag war dann der Ball... und es war herrlich alle nach so langer Zeit wieder zu sehen...


am Freitag dann gemütlich in Graz, Freunde treffen, den heiß ersehnten Glühwein trinken und endlich mal wieder Maroni essen und dann....

ja, ab Freitag Abend mit einer Bauchgrippe im Bett bis 1h vor meinem Abflug Sonntag Abend - wars der Glühwein, die vielen Maroni oder doch der Maci Burger um 12 in der Nacht oder einfach nur die Aufregung und Freude endlich wieder in Graz sein zu können??? Naja ich werds wohl nie wissen...aber ich habs trotzdem sehr genossen und hab den Flug gestern gottseidank auch gut zurück in meine 2. Heimat überstanden und sitze jetzt bereits wieder auf meinem Arbeitsplatz und so schön es hier auch ist - ich kanns trotzdem schon wieder nicht erwarten am Samstag ins Flugzeug nach Hause zu steigen....und da spielt sicher auch eine großer Anteil Vorfreude auf Singapore mit :-)

Also dann, Bussi an alle aus A'Dam.

genau - Weihnachtskekse gebacken!

mit den Kindern von Bekannten. Vanillekipferln und andere Kekse in allerlei Formen.... war sozusagen eine andere Art Sprackkurs nachdem ich mit den Kindern nur Holländisch gesprochen hab :-) also gleich zwei Nutzen: was gutes zum Essen und was dabei mein Holländisch üben! het was echt heel gezellig een leuk een de kookjes zijn wel ook lekker geworden!




Übrigens: der Countdown läuft: 17 Tage nur mehr in beautiful Amsterdam!!!

es wird wieder mal Zeit für einen Eintrag...

Mein Highlight letzte Woche war das Mando Diao Konzert das ich mit 3 deutschen Bekannten besucht hab - und wie sich herausgestellt waren wir dort nicht die einzigen deutschsprechenden: es waren praktisch nur Deutsche dort - anscheinend ist die Band in den Niederlanden nicht so bekannt....
Obwohl ich ja nicht so ein großer Fan bin, bzw. die Musik eigentlich nicht so oft hör, muss ich sagen dass es echt total toll war - super Stimmung, wahrscheinlich auch weil es ein relativ kleines Konzert war, und alle sind wie wild herumgesprungen und ich bin halt ein bissl mitgehüpft ;-)
